DIY: Make your own Rod Leashes

It is really simple to make your own Bungee Rod Leash. Over time using many different types of rod leashes from DIY coiled wire from old cell phone chargers to rope the bungee chord style leashes I have always liked the best.

Things you will need:

1/8″ Bungee Chord

3/8″ DIA. x 3″ L Heat Shrink Tubing with Adhesive cut in half

rod leash (Large)Cut the 1/8″ bungee to any length you would like. I prefer 30″.  Then cut the heat shrink tubing in half. Slide both pieces of the heat shrink tubing on the bungee. This way you don’t forget to slide the second piece on later. Using pliers position the C-Ring Crimp open end out. make 1.5″ loop at the end of the bungee. and place the tag end and the main line into the crimp. Crimp down making the loop permanent. Make sure by pulling on the bungee it does not slide through the crimp. Next slide over one piece of the heat shrink tubing and using a heat gun or lighter shrink the tubing in place. Open the Sea Clamp and close it through the loop. This is your fishing rod connection.

On the other end slide the tag end through the Carabiner eye. Using the same technique as on the other end crimp a loop. Slide the remaining heat shrink tubing and shrink over.

Your DIY bungee rod leash is now complete.

I have seen this question posted here and there and I have the answer for you! The best way to Mount the Torqeedo 403 Throttle Controller is using a RAM Mount. Then go to your local Hardware store and match the threads to a Stainless Steel screw and mount it to the diamond base RAM ball.  Now you have plenty of mounting options!

Was working on a few upgrades and repairs to the Big Rig today. Had these deck fittings from Sea-Lect Designs. sealect-leash (Large)I was trying to figure out a great location on the Jackson Kayaks these would work best. Well it turns out with a longer 1/4-20 screw it is adaptable to the existing handle threaded inserts without modifying the handles. This is a great place to attach paddle leashes rod leashes and fish stringers. The double loop deck loops work out great in this location if leave your rods leashed at all times. I tend to do this especially fishing saltwater where there typically is larger waves more rocking and a current.

Things you will need:

Sea-Lect Designs Deck Fitting Double Loop PArt# K736560-1 (Pack of 6)

1/4″-20x 1″ oval Head SS Screw (1) per every desired Deck Loop install

Loc-Tite Thread Locker

Instructions

Simply remove factory installed screw. Keep handle and washer at location. Using 1 Double Loop Deck Loop and 1 1/4″-20 x 1″ Screw thread screw through deck loop in center mounting hole. Dab a drop of Loc-Tite on threads. Tighten until tight. DO Not over tighten as it could cause the threaded insert to break its bond with the plastic of the hull and damage the kayak.
