Plexi Glass Glued InTo gain more space under the center hatch of the Jackson Cuda 14 I’v decided to rewire the location of the battery box. Using a piece of plexy glass I had lying around in the garage i cut a plate that would make a shelf. Then using Lexel I basically glued it in. This shelf will keep my battery centered and stowed. This way its not flopping around.

I let that set with the battery box sitting on it for a day. Then left it alone for a few weeks to see if it getting wet would break the Lexel bond to the kayak. As we know not much sticks to the poly.

Relocated Battery BoxI used an existing install and my existing battery box. All i did was extend the wires for the power to the stern.

Using some adhesive velcro I mounted the box to the plexy glass and now its removable!

This install will work on pretty much any kayak with an open hull and a rear hatch.

15-5 inch porgie!I would have never thought it in the past to actually target these fish with my freshwater rod and reel!. As a kid i had caught porgies but never really targeted them. The Croaker is new to me as i had never caught the species in Raritan bay. It is actually very tasty. Better than fluke I must add. Just bony your not making a fish sandwich out of these fish. Their too bony and filleting them i hate wasting the meat with the pin bones. Theyr just way too small to get out by pulling the meat and them staying in the fish.

The photo to the left is a trophy. a 15.5 inch 4.5 lb Porgie. Amazing! Personal best for porgies! That one was foil packed and grilled. Excellent.

The rest of the fish were smoked in the smoker for 3 hours. Perfect!

Catch of the day!

IMG_1041931445038946Once again another successful outing for Heroes on the Water New Jersey Chapter! This one was a more relaxing trip as it was a river float. This means not much paddling required. Just go with the flow of the river. Most everyone I believe caught at least one fish. Myself ended up with 3 small mouth bass! Small mouth bass a first on the yak!. I believe we had 12 vets and a total of 38 in the group! Nice turnout! Boats were all set up and rigged by 8:30 ish. Waited on the VA again. Finally hit the water around 10:30. It wasn’t long till over the radio we heard the first fish was caught!

Texas rigs and wacky worms worked pretty well. I caught all my fish on a silver rooster tail #3!. It was nice to be in fresh water! my boat got a good wash!

I brought my pump tube water gun for fun!.  Val the NJ HOW volunteer photographer got some awesome shots of be squirting it! Thanks Val!! During the on the river group shot i squirted water up in the air and let it rain on everyone! It was refreshing as it was a pretty hot day.

The entire trip was a little over 7 miles of pure beauty. Some of us even were lucky to see a bald eagle hunting ducks on the river. An amazing site as the ducks tried to get away.

IMG_1042043124024541Im not sure if they did all get away as I was still easily 200 yards from them. This trip I believe is going to be a yearly one since it was incredibly successful!
