Once you have installed a motor to your kayak most states require it to be registered. Some states even require a boating safety certificate or a boat license to operate a motorized kayak as it qualifies as a motor boat.

The first step after purchasing your kayak is to obtain the Manufacturers Statement of Origin (MSO). Simply call your kayak manufacturers customer service or ask your local kayak dealer. Have the serial # ready. It is typically located at the Starboard Stern or Rear Right side.

You will also need to have a copy of your purchase receipt or invoice. Some states collect sales tax if it wasnt paid at the purchase time. This can happen if purchased as a private sale or within a Tax Free state.

A great resource for information to register your kayak within the state you reside is at www.takemefishing.org. Follow this link for state by state information with a breakdown of documents needed. https://www.takemefishing.org/register-a-boat/#stateList

Coming in March 2020 the new improved 1000 watt 3 HP pylon will add thrust to your kayak! Packed with the ultralight mount making install simple on any kayak with a 4 bolt mounting pattern. Included in the kit is the large 915WH battery with charger and Throttle Controller with LCD readout data. MSRP of the kit is $2,699

More Speed with Efficency

Prototype testing results have shown much more speed with the Ultralight 1003. With a larger prop and 700 wats of more power this pylon will drive a Hobie Pro Angler up to 6.5 MPH! Weather and current conditions may differ.

The 1003 pylon delivers more efficient power usage while in use at the current top speed of the 403. For example if the 403 pushes your kayak 5.2 MPH at top speed the 1003 will use less battery power at the same speed. This is due to the new propellor design.

Direct Drive

An exciting new feature of the Ultralight 1103 is its Direct Drive Technology. This technology removes the reduction gear and the whine sound of the 403. It is virtually silent besides water movement!

Improved Throttle Response Time

Immediate response time from forward to reverse. The Ultralight 403 lacks the instant response with about a 1.5 second delay from stop to start. The Ultralight 1103 with its quick response allows easier small adjustments while fishing!

Weight Difference

The Ultralight 1003 pylon is a bit heaver than the 403. Coming in at about 16lbs. However the mounting hardware will have changes to allow the user to raise and lower with ease. The 1003 will have the same mounting and quick release options as the 403 A/C!

The new Torqeedo “C” Mount Utilizes a 4 molded threaded insert pattern consistent with Power Pole Mounting. Unfortunately the Jackson Kayak Kilroy does not come with this option. I opted to fabricate a custom mounting plate from 1/2″ Starboard then mounting to where the existing handle was located.

If I was to permanently install the mount on the rear of the Kilroy, it would interfere with my car top loading method. To remedy this issue I came up with the idea of utilizing 12″ gear track to slide the mount into a stowed position on loading, then slide out for use. I Drilled the track and countersunk larger holes to allow 1/4 20 bolts to pass through.

The use of Yakattack T bolts & Track Nuts allow quick tightening and loosening of the mount to either stow or retract for use.

The A/C motor install used all of my previous steering. I only had to modify the up/dn line for a longer distance.
