Fluking in Raritan Bay has been ON FIRE!! Literally anywhere you would typically fish for the ambush predators they are there in numbers. Not just plentiful in numbers but very nice in size!! All fish caught were above 16″ and max to 24 inches caught by Homer. For myself it was a 90 point Kayak Wars day and homer had a 105 point day! Nice for fluke fishing!! For those not familiar with Kayak Wars. It is an online kayak fishing tournament where kayak anglers submit their catches digitally via uploading a photograph file with their catch on a measuring device. Its is extremely fun!

Anyway i will add the video of my 22.5 inch fluke later!

Well the first tropical storm of the year dropped well over 6+ inches of rain during the day and overnight Friday June 7th 2013.

Woke up at 4:00 am to go out of South Amboy for some striped bass fishing. Arrived there around 5 am and loaded up my yak. Dropped in and trolled a tube and worm for about an hour until reaching the moored sailboats in Perth Amboy. Even though it was incoming tide the water from the Raritan River was pushing out hard into the bay. It was an easy 2.5 mph drift with the wind and the river current. I even gave the water a taste and it was fresh water. I finally gave at slack tide when the really muddy water came down the river. Nice day to get out fishing as always.

Heroes On The WaterPicatinney Lake is a private lake located on an US Army Base in New Jersey named Picatinney Arsenal. This base is one of the oldest bases on US history as it was a base prior to the revolution. It was an honor to fish here with our heroes. I must add great fishing!. Typically I do not kayak fish fresh water but since i have been volunteerOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAing at HOW NJ outings there has been an opportunity to fish it more often.

The fishing was literally off the hook with about every other cast fighting a Chain Pickerel or a Crappie. Ended up with a slam within a half hour of my first cast!  The weather was overcast most of the day and packing up we were caught in a heavy downpour and thunderstorm. Soaked through.

This outing was great for the guys as everyone caught fish and we all had a good time. The vets were from the Lyons VA hospital.
