The Oceanic Bridge region of the Navesink River typically holds very large fluke as they come into the river every spring to spawn. As the days warm up fishing gets better and better. With its high cliffs and extravagant mansions overlooking it the area is a very unique place to fish. Arrived around 8 am to meet up with a fellow kayak fisherman. Reports for fluke in the river were strong the week before and we were searching for a good result. Dropped in on a small sandy beach at a local park in Rumson New Jersey. Started a drift fishing a small channel on the south east side of the bridge. Choice of rig was a 1 oz white Spro bucktail with a 6″ white gulp swimming mullet and a high dropper loop with a 5/0 Gamakatsu Octopus hook tipped with a Power Team Lures Chartreuse Grub.
ME 16IN FLUKE (Large)Fishing was slow all morning a few fish 16″ and under. In New Jersey 2014 Regs is 18″ and five fish. Soon after 9 AM there was a police boat that showed up and was boarding everyone. They actually didn’t bother me or even stop by. They boarded just about every boat checking their catch.   After about 8 hours of fishing was able to land a 19″er finally! Really glad I didn’t decide to give up for the day. At this point in time i was just tired of being rocked all day by boat traffic and the wind had become stronger. It was time to call it a day. It was great to get out and use my new Aqua-bound Spin drift Carbon Paddle. I was able to really put it to the test! The performance is amazing. Paddling the low angle style I have found causes less fatigue. Meaning longer days on the water fishing.

Took my fluke from Monday and my crabs from Friday and mixed them together. After 2.5 hours of picking 8 crabs and 10 mins to filet 1 fluke i had the base ingredients for fluke stuffed with crab meat stuffing!

What you will need.

1/2 cup crab meat

4 Fluke Fillets (1 fish)

1/4 Onion Minced

2 tsp fresh garlic or (3 cloves minced)

2 tblsp Fake organic butter

Fresh Parsley (can use dried)

1 tsp Dry Mustard

Panko

Salt & Pepper

Lemon Juice

Simply add the butter to the pan once melted add the garlic and onion simmering about a minute. Add the crab meat. Mix in parsley dry mustard. You can add old bay if desired. I typically dont.  I like to salt & pepper to taste and add cayenne for flavor. Once all nice an coated add the Panko until the mixture is minimally moist. Do not make completely dry.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Lay the 4 fillets out and sprinkle the stuffing on the fillets. Roll up and with a tooth pick insert to hold the fillet into a roll. Add a splash of lemon juice to each roll and lightly salt and pepper the filet.

Bake for 12 minutes in convection oven and 15 -17 mins in conventional oven.

Make sure fish flakes and enjoy!

Fluking in Raritan Bay has been ON FIRE!! Literally anywhere you would typically fish for the ambush predators they are there in numbers. Not just plentiful in numbers but very nice in size!! All fish caught were above 16″ and max to 24 inches caught by Homer. For myself it was a 90 point Kayak Wars day and homer had a 105 point day! Nice for fluke fishing!! For those not familiar with Kayak Wars. It is an online kayak fishing tournament where kayak anglers submit their catches digitally via uploading a photograph file with their catch on a measuring device. Its is extremely fun!

Anyway i will add the video of my 22.5 inch fluke later!
